About me
Luba Meyer was born in St. Petersburg and studied vocal performance and vocal pedagogy at the Institute of Music in Halle (Saale) under Uta Lesch and Jörg Hempel. Even before beginning her formal studies, she performed regularly on stage — initially with the ensemble “Cholem”, directed by Evguenia Cerkes.
During her academic years, she was a founding and active member of the Junges Musiktheater Halle e.V., with which she made her debut at the Opera Halle in the contemporary opera Drei Intermezzi – Die Verwicklungen des Herrn Schikaneder by Yasmin Engelke.
Her artistic development was significantly shaped by advanced training in masterclasses with renowned artists such as David L. Jones, Janet Williams, and Mirella Freni. After completing her studies, Luba Meyer focused intensively on Jewish music, which led her on concert tours to France, Latvia, Israel, and throughout Germany.

With the ensemble "Rozhinkes", she performed songs from the Kadya Songs cycle — based on poems by Kadya Molodowsky — at the Gewandhaus Leipzig, together with the composer Alan Bern. Another highlight of her career was the performance of the song cycle A vort un a trer (“A Word and a Tear”) by Leonid Guralnik, a composer from Erfurt, at the Händel House in Halle.
In addition to her passion for Jewish music, Luba Meyer is also dedicated to chamber music, developing her own programs that are especially close to her heart — such as “A Russian Romance” and “The Elisabeth Schumann Project”
. Sacred music also represents a significant part of her artistic work.
Another strong area of interest is the symbiosis of music and theatre. Projects that combine both art forms offer her the opportunity to fully explore her potential as a performer and to discover new creative spaces.
